Different treatment facilities provide different levels of care, such as detox, outpatient treatment (like a partial hospitalization program), and residential rehab programs. The services offered depend on the individual’s treatment requirements. It’s important to research specific treatment facilities to understand the services they offer and assess their suitability for your needs or the needs of your loved ones.

What Does Drug and Alcohol Rehab Cost in Florida?

The cost of a Florida rehab center varies widely across each drug rehab based on several factors, including the type of program, location, and length of treatment. 542 of the 712 Florida rehabs accept private insurance plans, roughly 76%. Some of the predominant factors that affect the cost of treatment programs include:

Type of Program

The type of substance misuse treatment program, such as inpatient or outpatient, can influence the cost. In general, inpatient programs tend to be more expensive than outpatient programs due to the level of care and additional services offered.

Specialized programs, such as dual-diagnosis treatment for those with co-occurring disorders, veterans, LGBTQ+ individuals, or other specific groups, might cost more.

Location

Location is another factor that can play a role in the cost of treatment- as a Florida Center located in a larger city or more affluent neighborhood may be more expensive than those located outside of metropolitan areas.

Length of Treatment

The length of time spent in treatment is a significant factor influencing the cost. Generally, longer stays tend to be more expensive than shorter ones.

Amenities

High-end Florida drug and alcohol care centers with amenities such as private rooms, gourmet meals, recreational facilities, and holistic modalities will generally charge more than basic addiction recovery programs.

When evaluating centers, their treatment process, programs, and weighing costs, keep in mind the following aspects:

  • Available treatment options, such as drug detox, inpatient and outpatient care
  • Licensure, accreditations, and certifications of the center and treatment team
  • Range of treatment services provided, including specialized programs
  • Types of insurance plans accepted
  • Available payment plans, scholarships, or sliding fee scales
  • Treatment philosophy and approach

Does Private Health Insurance Cover Rehab in Florida?

Due to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), private insurance companies must offer some form of coverage for treatment. This essentially implies that, in general, insurers are not permitted to refuse coverage for alcohol use disorder or substance use disorder treatment. However, the exact coverage and extent depend on the individual health care plan’s benefits and particulars.

Almost all of the 712 rehab centers in Florida accept various insurance types, including:

  • Private health insurance is accepted by 76.1% of Florida rehabs.
  • Medicare is accepted by 31% of Florida rehabs
  • Medicaid is accepted by 43.4% of Florida drug treatment facilities
  • State-financed health insurance other than Medicaid is accepted by 29.8% of Florida centers
  • Federal military insurance is accepted by 41.2% of Florida treatment facilities

Do Rehabs in Florida Treat Addiction and Mental Health Conditions?

About 340 treatment centers in Florida treat both substance abuse disorders and mental health disorders. Treatment centers in Florida that address both substance and mental health disorders simultaneously are typically referred to as offering dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder treatment.

Recognizing the close interplay between addiction and other mental health problems is crucial for adequate alcohol and drug abuse treatment. Many individuals with substance disorders such as alcohol or opioid addiction also suffer from mental health disorders like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and others.

Sometimes, these mental health disorders can be underlying causes or triggers for substance abuse, while in other cases, prolonged substance abuse can exacerbate or lead to the emergence of mental health conditions.

Depending on addiction severity, an individualized treatment plan may involve a combination of medical detox to overcome withdrawal symptoms, behavioral health services, individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, peer support group, medication management, recreational therapy, relapse prevention education, aftercare planning, support groups such as AA and NA and more. All of these services may be used collectively when treating substance abuse disorders.

According to the Substance Use Disorder and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the most commonly addressed substances in a Florida addiction treatment center include:

  • Opioids
  • Alcohol
  • Cocaine
  • Heroin
  • Benzodiazepines
  • Methamphetamine

  • Florida ranks second in the nation for overdose deaths, behind only California, with 7,579 deaths in 2020, a 37% increase from the previous year.
  • The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated the opioid crisis in Florida as individuals with drug dependencies became more isolated, with limited access to support networks and treatment.
  • In 2019, Florida witnessed 5,147 overdose cases, with Broward County recording the highest at 502 cases.
Fentanyl-related deaths in Pinellas County saw a more than 52% increase from 2019 to 2020.

Are Drug and Alcohol Detox Florida An Option?

Detox services are available in Florida on both a residential and intensive outpatient treatment program basis.

Medical detox is the process of eliminating toxins from an individual’s body. Depending on the severity of the addiction and the type of substance abused, detox can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks or even months. Medical professionals closely monitor individuals to ensure a safe withdrawal and prevent relapse during the detox process.

What Comes After Detox?

Following medical detox, there are many treatment options available, including inpatient treatment, residential treatment programs, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and even telemedicine platforms. Patients generally transition to an inpatient treatment program, residential treatment program, or outpatient addiction treatment program, depending on their needs and preferences.

Inpatient Rehab

Inpatient rehabs at a residential treatment center provide a supportive environment for individuals struggling with addiction. Unlike outpatient treatment programs, where patients return home daily, those in residential rehab stay on-site for their residential program, allowing them to focus entirely on their addiction recovery. Inpatient rehabs emphasize the importance of building coping skills and fostering healthy coping mechanisms to handle stressors and challenges without reverting to substance use.

Residential rehab programs at a treatment center in Florida often provide a structured routine filled with various therapeutic activities. These activities range from individual therapy sessions, where clients can delve deep into the roots of their addiction, to group therapy sessions that promote shared experiences and mutual support. Medication-assisted treatment and medication management might also be introduced to ease withdrawal symptoms and curb cravings, ensuring a smoother recovery journey.

Outpatient Rehab

Following detox, outpatient care serves as a bridge to help individuals transition from the intense care of detox to a self-sufficient, healthy life. Unlike a residential treatment setting, outpatient rehab allows individuals to receive treatment while living at home and maintaining their daily responsibilities. This flexibility can be instrumental for those who have work or family obligations but are still dedicated to pursuing a healthy life free from addiction.

An alcohol or drug treatment program with an outpatient component offers structured therapy sessions, counseling, and, if necessary, medically assisted treatment. These services are provided without the need for an overnight stay at the facility, giving individuals the liberty to incorporate their treatment into their daily routine seamlessly.

Choosing the right drug rehab facility in Florida for outpatient care is crucial. The ideal center will be equipped to provide all the necessary resources, from expert therapists to comprehensive aftercare programs. Aftercare becomes especially vital for outpatient clients, as it reinforces the coping mechanisms and strategies learned during therapy, ensuring long-term sobriety.

Moreover, many outpatient centers, recognizing the complex nature of addiction, incorporate medically assisted treatment into their programs. This method can be particularly effective for those transitioning from an inpatient setting or detox, as it helps manage withdrawal symptoms and reduces the risk of relapse.

What Can I Expect During Rehab in FL?

Entering a Florida rehab program, especially at an inpatient drug rehab center, means embracing a sober life within a structured environment that prioritizes 24-hour care for men and women suffering from substance use disorders. On the other hand, outpatient treatment, such as partial hospitalization, provides patients with the benefit of flexibility. While they undergo behavioral health care at a treatment facility during the day, they can return to the comfort of their homes at night, allowing them to maintain some aspects of their daily routine.

One of the core components of care at a treatment center is the emphasis on therapeutic interventions. Most facilities will integrate a holistic approach combining individual and group therapy sessions to ensure that patients not only address personal challenges but also benefit from shared experiences and peer support during the recovery process.

I know others reading this will understand what I mean…I had been torturing myself for so many years, that even (I) assumed I would never get better…that it wasn’t possible to overcome this.I fought PRC every step of the way…at first. After about a week in the program, I began to notice how much differently I felt about myself, my struggles, and my CHANCES at getting past what brought me to them in the first place.Sure, I was still struggling, and I still do…but they taught me the TRUTH about WHY I struggle, and gave me the TOOLS I needed (and you or your loved one needs) to find a way out and STAY clean. They taught me to WANT IT!Once I gave them the SLIGHTEST CHANCE…PRC unlocked my inner DESIRE to get clean and STAY clean. How they were able to reverse the psychological turmoil I had been living with, I’ll never truly understand…I don’t need to.
